Nicht von dieser Welt Boxy T-Shirt von Good-Natured im Boxy-Fit

Oversized, boxy or relaxed: which T-shirt fit is right for you?

Oversized, boxy, relaxed and regular aren't sizes – they're proportions. They describe how the width and length of a T-shirt relate to each other. Boxy is wide and fairly short, oversized is wide and noticeably longer, relaxed sits loosely with a little less width, and regular follows the body. At Good-Natured you'll mostly find boxy and oversized cuts – and every shirt comes with a size chart in centimetres, so you can work out the right size in two minutes.

At a glance

• Fit ≠ size: The fit describes the ratio of chest width to length, not whether a shirt runs "large".

• Same width, different length: In size M, our boxy and our oversized shirt are both 61 cm wide – but the oversized one is 77.5 cm long instead of 69 cm.

• Two measurements are enough: Lay your favourite shirt flat, measure half the chest width and the length, and compare with the chart.

• Unisex: Our shirts are cut unisex; if you're used to women's cuts, you'll often end up one size smaller.

"A fit isn't a size. It's the ratio of width to length – and you can measure that."

Oversized, boxy, relaxed, regular: the four fits at a glance

Regular / classic. Cut straight, following the body with a little room. The shoulder seam sits on the shoulder. The most understated cut and the least dependent on trends.

Relaxed. A little wider than regular, with the shoulder seam shifting slightly outwards. Comfortable without changing your silhouette much – the compromise that almost always works. One example is our Alpha & Omega T-shirt (32,30 €) with a relaxed unisex fit, slightly dropped shoulders and a subtle box print.

Oversized. Much more room, the shoulder seam sits clearly on the upper arm, and the shirt is noticeably longer. It looks calm, drapes softly and forgives changes over the years. Typical examples: The Greatest Love Story (32,30 €) or Heavenly Mindset (38 €) with a 3D print on the front and back.

Boxy. Wide but shorter – almost square. It works well with wide trousers, high-waisted jeans and skirts, because the shirt doesn't hang over your hips. At Good-Natured you'll find boxy, for example, in the Grace Boxy T-shirt (38 €) with a small front print and a large back print.

What the numbers show: our three cuts in size M

The difference becomes clearest when you put real measurements side by side. All values come from the size charts on our product pages, measured with the shirt lying flat (width = half the chest width from edge to edge):

Boxy (approx. 200 g/m²): 61 cm wide, 69 cm long, sleeve 19.5 cm.

Oversized (approx. 235 g/m²): 61 cm wide, 77.5 cm long.

Relaxed (approx. 220 g/m²): 57 cm wide, 70 cm long, sleeve 23 cm.

So boxy and oversized are the same width – the difference is almost entirely in the length. If you want a shirt that sits loosely but doesn't reach past your hips, go boxy. If you like it long and flowing, go oversized. Relaxed is narrower but has longer sleeves – closer to a classic T-shirt. The charts allow a tolerance of about 5 %, because every shirt is sewn, not moulded.

The favourite-shirt test

The most reliable method, no guessing required: take the shirt that fits you best, lay it smoothly on a table and measure two values.

Width: just below the armpits, from edge to edge across the flat shirt. That's half the chest width – exactly the value in our charts.

Length: from the shoulder seam straight down to the hem.

Compare these two numbers with the size chart on the product page – done. If your favourite shirt measures 58 cm wide and 70 cm long, a boxy shirt in S (58 × 67 cm) will be slightly shorter, while a relaxed shirt in L (59 × 72 cm) will be almost exactly the same. It takes two minutes and replaces every rule of thumb.

Should you buy a T-shirt one size up?

With regular and relaxed: it makes sense if you wear something underneath or deliberately like it looser.

With oversized: usually not. The extra room is already built in; one size up quickly turns into a tent, especially in the length. Some people still wear it "very oversized" on purpose – that's a question of style, not of fit.

With boxy: it depends on your height. Because boxy cuts are shorter, tall people who like a longer shirt often take the next size – the width and sleeves then grow with it. A reference point from our product photos: in the Grace Boxy T-shirt, Elia (1.86 m, average build) wears size L, and Heidi (1.62 m, slim) wears size S. Many of our shirts list details like these directly on the product page.

Why measuring is worth it

Every return means extra transport, packaging and work – and waiting time for you. Two minutes with a tape measure before ordering usually saves all of that. And if something doesn't fit after all: we prepare regular returns and sell them again as normal.

What does unisex mean for T-shirts?

Unisex isn't a fit but a cutting decision: the shirt isn't tapered at the waist and usually follows the men's fit. That works very well for wide styles like boxy and oversized, and less well for close-fitting ones. If you order a unisex item and are used to women's cuts, you'll usually take one size smaller – but better still: measure. To see which pieces women like to combine from our range, read our guide to Christian fashion for women; the counterpart for men is our article on Christian fashion for men.

Fabric, print, care: what counts besides the fit

A good cut doesn't help much if the shirt hangs crooked after ten washes. That's why the details matter. A large share of our shirts is sewn in Portugal – at Good-Natured we place great importance on producing in Europe, and all our suppliers are members of the Fair Wear Foundation. The Easy Yoke T-shirt Black (38 €), for example, is made from 100 % organic cotton, cut in a boxy fit and carries its message as a sewn-on fabric appliqué with embroidery rather than a flat print.

We've summed up other signs of a well-made shirt in 4 things that matter when buying Jesus shirts. And to keep fit and print looking good for a long time, our guide How to wash shirts properly will help – loose cuts in particular don't forgive the tumble dryer. How long a T-shirt actually lasts depends at least as much on care as on fabric.

Conclusion

Fits are proportions, not sizes. At Good-Natured, boxy and oversized are the same width and differ mainly in length; relaxed is narrower and more classic. Measure your favourite shirt once, note the two numbers, and you'll get it right with almost every order from then on – leaving you free to focus on what really makes a shirt: a message you love to wear. And if you want to build a capsule wardrobe for a whole year from a few good pieces, start with two or three shirts in your favourite cut.

Frequently asked questions

Does an organic cotton shirt shrink in the wash?

Cotton can shrink slightly, especially at high temperatures and in the tumble dryer. That's why our care instructions are: gentle cycle at 30 °C, no tumble dryer, dry on the line and iron inside out at a low temperature. That way length and width stay largely as they are in the size chart.

I'm right between two sizes – which should I choose?

Decide by length: with boxy shirts, go for the larger size if the shirt would otherwise be too short for you; with oversized shirts, go for the smaller one, because length and width are generous anyway. With relaxed, check the sleeve length.

Do your shirts fit very tall or petite people?

Our T-shirts mostly come in XS to XXL. One example from the product details: in the Heavenly Mindset Oversized T-shirt, Aron (1.95 m, broad build) wears XXL and Lavinia (1.66 m) wears M. With oversized cuts in particular, petite people often find their fit in XS or S.

Can we get your shirts for a group with our own design?

Yes. For churches, camps or teams we make custom shirts from 25 pieces, freely combinable with hoodies or sweaters. You'll find everything about the process, prices and timeline on our B2B page.
