God who sees me God encounters a woman in the desert. Hagar is a slave on the run, pregnant with Abram's illegitimate child. God sees her in her despair and distress and begins to speak to her, offering protection and promises for her and her descendants. God addresses Hagar by name, showing her that He knows her and will care for her. God promises to take care of what she worries about most. Filled with gratitude, she cries out, "You are the God who sees me!"

Then she called the name of the LORD, who had spoken to her, "You are a God who sees me." For she said, "Did I not see him here who saw me?" Therefore the name of the well was called Beer-lahai-roi (The Well of the Living One Who Has Seen Me).
