Christian Sportswear: Material, Fit and Care

You can recognise good Christian sportswear by three things: performance fabric that wicks moisture away, a cut that doesn't chafe when you move, and a message that reminds you during training where your strength comes from. At Good-Natured that message is “Strong in Grace” – strong through God's grace. Our Active Wear includes shirts, shorts, leggings and sports bras; here's what matters in material, fit and care.

At a glance

• Material: sportswear is almost always synthetic – cotton soaks up sweat and gets heavy.

• Fit: the leggings, biker shorts and sports bra in the Strong in Grace line are made of rib fabric with a supportive fit.

• Origin: leggings, biker shorts and bra are made in Portugal, the active shirt and shorts in Serbia.

• Prices: Active Shirt 38 €, Leggings 65 €.

• Care: 30 °C, no fabric softener, no tumble dryer.

“We ask what our T-shirts are made of, but not our leggings. Yet we wear them more often.”

Why isn't sportswear made of cotton?

Cotton absorbs moisture and barely releases it. During training, that means the garment gets heavy, cools you down and chafes. That's why performance wear is almost always made of polyester or polyamide – these fibres move moisture to the outside, where it evaporates.

So the useful question isn't “cotton or not”, but: where does the synthetic fibre come from, and how well is it made? Recycled polyester with GRS certification (Global Recycled Standard) comes from reclaimed material and is independently verified. It's worth checking the material percentages on every piece of sportswear.

Shirts and shorts: air where you sweat

For tops, ventilation is what counts. The Strong in Grace Active Shirt is breathable, relaxed in cut and has mesh at the neck – exactly where heat builds up when you run. The matching Strong in Grace Active Shorts for 40 € have mesh at the seat and a small print front and back.

Leggings, biker shorts and bra: support without pressure

Close-fitting pieces have to do two things at once: support and move with you. Rib fabric helps, because the fine ribs stretch and still give structure. The Strong in Grace Leggings, the Biker Shorts for 55 € and the Sports Bra for 40 € are made of rib fabric with a supportive fit, carry lettering on the hip or a small logo, and are made in Portugal. Leggings and bra come as a set in the bundle for 78,75 €, shorts and bra in the bundle for 71,25 €.

A sizing tip: close-fitting sportswear holds through tension rather than cut. If you're between two sizes, choose the larger one for leggings, and for the bra the one where the underband sits firmly without digging in.

Seamless: why there's no seam

Seamlessly knitted pieces have only a change of texture where a seam would normally be. That means no chafing on the inner thighs, armpits or shoulders – exactly where problems arise during longer sessions. The downside: seamless pieces fit tighter and are less forgiving. You'll find our selection under Seamless Wear.

How do you wash sportswear properly?

No fabric softener. It coats the fibres and destroys exactly the property you buy performance fabric for – moisture transport.

30 °C, short cycle. Heat damages elastane, and elastane is what keeps the shape.

No tumble dryer. Performance fabric air-dries quickly anyway.

Turn it inside out and spread it out straight after training. This prevents odours more effectively than hot washing. More care tips in How to wash shirts properly.

What the product page should tell you

• Material composition – not just “performance fabric”.

• Certification if recycled polyester is used (GRS).

• Size chart with measured values – especially important for close-fitting pieces.

• Country of manufacture for each product.

More than a slogan: Strong in Grace

For us, “Strong in Grace” isn't a motivational formula. The strength it's about doesn't come from discipline or a training plan but from God's grace – new every day and undeserved. What a well-known verse on this really means is explained in Philippians 4:13: what “I can do all things” really means. The line also includes the Strong in Grace Trucker Cap and the Strong in Grace Socks with mesh on the instep.

At Good-Natured we place great value on producing in Europe. All our suppliers are members of the Fair Wear Foundation, and for every order we protect 1 m² of forest through Wilderness International.

Conclusion

Christian sportswear doesn't differ from other sportswear in function, but in what it reminds you of – and ideally in how it's made. A breathable shirt, leggings in rib fabric, the right size and care without fabric softener: that's how a piece lasts well beyond one season. You'll find the whole line at Good-Natured in the Strong in Grace collection; ideas for everyday wear after training are in Christian fashion for women and Christian fashion for men.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear Strong in Grace leggings in everyday life?

Yes. Thanks to the rib fabric they look less technical than shiny performance leggings and pair well with a loose hoodie or long-sleeve – such as the Strong Longsleeve with the same message.

How often should sportswear be washed?

Pieces worn directly on the skin, like bras, leggings and shirts, after every sweaty workout. The key is not to leave them damp in a bag until wash day but to spread them out – that stops odours from setting into the fibres.

Are there sports shirts with your own design for running groups or church teams?

For groups, Good-Natured produces T-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies, sweaters, cotton bags and socks with your own design from 25 pieces. Performance shirts aren't part of the standard range; a short enquiry via our B2B page will clarify what's possible.
